Salal x MAJ

Back to MAJ Journal

In solidarity with the women across our communities, we’re continuing our partnership with Salal (formerly WAVAW) for the 5th year in a row and pledging $25 from the sale of each You & Me Ring towards their mission of supporting survivors of sexualized assault.

For International Women’s Day 2024 – we are recommitting to our partnership with Salal: a Vancouver-born organization offering anti-oppressive, decolonizing, intersectional feminist support to survivors of sexualized violence. This year, we’ll be contributing $25 from the sale of each You & Me Ring towards Salal’s mission of providing critical support to survivors of sexualized violence.

What is Salal?

Salal is BC’s largest rape crisis centre operating on the unceded Coast Salish Territories. They provide support services to survivors of sexualized violence who have shared experiences of gender marginalization: cis and trans women, Two-Spirit, trans and/or nonbinary people. Believing in a world where people of all genders are valued and live free from sexualized violence, they also provide training sessions and information to the public surrounding these issues and advocate for social and systemic change through education, outreach, and activism.

What services does Salal offer?

  • Virtual and in-person one-to-one counselling and support groups

  • Specialized services by and for Indigenous communities including family members of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls

  • Specialized inclusion services by and for 2SLGBTQI+ survivors

  • A 24-Hour, nation-wide crisis & information line

  • Text and chat support with a victim service worker on Salal Connect

How does shopping with Melanie Auld impact the Salal community?

$40: One hour of support on Salal’s 24-Hour Crisis & Information Line available to survivors and their supporters nationwide

$70: Provides a survivor with an hour of one-to-one counselling, allowing them to process their thoughts & feelings in a safe space. There are currently more than 257 survivors on Salal’s waitlist to access this service.

$300: Accompanies two survivors to the hospital so they are not alone when they begin their healing journey. Salal provides transportation and advocacy to survivors seeking post-assault care at Vancouver General Hospital and UBC Hospital.

$700: Funds an entire support group session for up to 8 survivors, allowing them to reconnect with themselves and their community

How did the Melanie Auld community contribute in previous years?
